Earlier in the night it was announced the Goldust had slipped in water and hurt his knee. Was this just a ploy by Goldust to make Warrior believe he would be facing off against a weakened opponent or was he legitimately injured?
Goldust’s music begins to play and he Marlena (Terri Runnels) and a bodyguard make their way to the ring. Goldust’s left knee is indeed heavily bandaged. The Ultimate Warrior's music fills the arena and he runs to the ring intent on becoming WWF Intercontinental Champion for the third time in his career. Goldust runs back up the ramp as he is in fear of Warrior. Goldust wont come back to the ring so Warrior begins taunting him. He grabs Marlena’s cigar and starts puffing on it. He then grabs Marlena’s chair and sets it in the middle of the ring and sits on it. Goldust is getting increasingly agitated by Warrior’s taunts but still refuses to enter the ring with the Ultimate one. Warrior now gets hold of the costume Goldust wore to ringside. He puts it on the chair and sits down again. The crowd is booing Goldust. They are obviously not happy with his tactics and want him to get on with this match. Goldust grabs a mic and tells the crowd that if they don’t shut up he will come out and personally kiss each and every one of their asses. This draws some major heat from the crowd. Goldust finally gets into the ring but he cowers in the corner using Marlena as a shield. Warrior walks over and hands Marlena her cigar back. He gestures to Goldust that he wants to return his costume. Warrior is playing mind games with Goldust now and they seem to be having the desired effect as Goldust begins to relax a little. Goldust sits in the chair, which is still in the ring. Marlena is still a little cagey though and stands between he and Warrior. Warrior smokes the cigar again and Goldust sticks his hand out for Warrior to kiss. Warrior burns Goldusts hand with the cigar and clotheslines Goldust out of the chair. This is enough for Goldust who leaves the ring with Marlena. The referee, tired of all the games and tactics Goldust has used throughout the match, counts Goldust out giving the win to Warrior. Goldust retains the title however as he wasn’t defeated by pinfall or submission. Warrior gets out of the ring and grabs Goldusts bodyguard. He brings him back into the ring with him and proceeds to beat him down, finally giving the crowd some satisfaction. |
